IRONMAN 70.3 National Championship
Volunteer Opportunities Available: May 6, 2023
Following a successful 2021 event, Greater Zion will welcome the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 North American Championship in May. From over 100 countries, nearly 7,000 athletes will accept their invitation to compete on a course two billion years in the making. Athletes embark on a 1.2-mile swim in a desert oasis, cycle 56.1 miles beneath towering rock faces, and a 13.1-mile run takes them through ancient lava fields before finishing on the infamous red carpet in downtown St. George in front of thousands of spectators.
St. George Marathon
Volunteer Opportunities Available: October 7th, 2023
Beginning in 1977, the St. George Marathon has grown to become one of the top 20 largest marathons in the United States. Starting in the crisp, mountain air of Pine Valley, more than 7,000 runners descend toward St. George while passing through a variety of scenery, including the picturesque white, pink and red sandstone in Snow Canyon State Park. Runner’s World Magazine has included the St. George Marathon on their lists of 10 Most Scenic Marathons, Fastest Marathons and the top 20 Marathons in the US; calling it one of four “marathons to build a vacation around.
Huntsman World Senior Games
Volunteer Opportunities Available: October 9-21, 2023
Since its beginning in 1987, the Huntsman World Senior Games has become the largest annual multi-sport event in the world for athletes age 50 and better. Featuring over 10,000 participants from across the globe annually, their 35 sports are contested in a variety of venues across Greater Zion over a two-week period. The Games are known for fostering peace among nations through friendly competition and are praised for promoting health in older adults. With help from over 2,500 volunteers, including medical and nursing students to sporting directors and entertainers, the Huntsman World Senior Games is truly made possible by the community.
